Hi! My name is Jordan Phillips, I am a teacher. But we are more than just titles and careers, right? I like to think of myself as a daydreamer, constantly chasing the rabbit trial but trying to stay grounded at the same time. Since I was a young kid I have always had ideas, dreams, goals. For instance, my mother told me that one dream I had was to become the guy who gets to ride on the back of the garbage truck. Growing up I lived next door to my school. We had this shop in our backyard, and I devised a plan to open a burger place for students to get food from. Needless to say, my poor mother always would have to listen to my million ideas.
“constantly chasing the rabbit trail but trying to stay grounded at the same time.”
The year was 2013, we were a week or so away from Christmas and my mother took me to see the movie Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It may be cliche, we all are in some way, but I truly believe that movie awoke something in me that was dormant for years. I had a taste for adventure, a life of yes. So much so, that a week after I graduated high school I found myself boarding a plane bound for Montana. I would spend an entire summer there at a place called Clydehurst Christian Ranch. It was in those mountains, over 10 weeks, where I started taking pictures with my phone. I fell in love with the process, but I did not own a camera, so I used what I could on my phone.
Fast forward several years and I was finishing up college, somewhat burned out on photography, but still itching to be creative. My sister-in-law in 2023 was getting married, she asked me if I would be willing to film their wedding, I told her no, mainly because I did not have the gear to do so but also because I had no clue how to film a wedding. Eventually, she convinced me, so the scramble began.
I did have some experience filming. In 2019 I filmed videos for that camp in Montana, but it had been so long since those days in the mountains. This is a great time for me to shout out the individual that was pretty much a mentor to me. Cole Hughes is a fantastic videographer, filmmaker, music creator, graphic designer, editor, and the list can go on and on. He allowed me to borrow all of his gear for my first wedding. It got me through the day, and I cannot emphasize how grateful I am for his kindness.
Long story short, I really enjoyed the process of making a wedding video! Not to get too philosophical about it but I had a realization that these weddings are the culmination of two individuals, two people who at one point lived totally separate lives, but are now dedicating the rest of their life to be together. It’s quite a beautiful thing to see families come together, to celebrate, to cherish this fleeting moment. But even more so, to invite me to come capture it. At the end of the day, if we peel back the onion, the core of wedding videography is storytelling. So, from there, I decided to start a film company. The name Daydream Films is directly inspired from the movie Secret Life of Walter Mitty, in fact the color bar in the logo is made up of colors you can find in the movie and the poster. The period at the end of the word Daydream is to symbolize the idea of “Daydream, period.” Is it the greatest logo in the world? By no means. In fact, graphic designers would probably pick this apart. But it’s mine. It’s meaningful to me. It’s a culmination of my own life, a life of daydreaming.

After I started the company, the next year in 2024, I did five more weddings! This year, 2025, I will do nine weddings! It has been an exciting time for me and I hope to continue my growth as a company. I would love to launch into the creative sphere and create a short film, but that is a long process. I am honestly not sure what the end goal of Daydream Films is, maybe I am trying to be the next A24. Not sure, but isn’t that exciting?
I am sure you are thinking, what does a blog have to do with a film “company.” Well, I am also not sure either, my goal is to share stories, on here, maybe rant and rave, I would like to get into the tech side of things. I also would enjoy giving tips and suggestions from a business mongrel (I have no clue what I am doing) such as myself. But mostly, I enjoy writing and I want to write more. My goal is to post a monthly blog and then move to twice a month.
To finish, I hope you enjoyed reading this and would be willing to subscribe to read more in the future! I’ll try to keep the conversation brief, entertaining, somewhat funny, and not boring! I also want to dedicate this first blog to my family, my wife, but specifically my mother, she has always dared me to daydream. Thank you, mom for taking me all those years ago to see Ben Stiller longboard down a mountain. It changed my life.
